#47 Yesterday I made friends with this beautiful tortoise and it made me think about the huge richness and diversity of God’s #creation. This reflection was further developed in quite a lively debate in the evening. I was asked why God would allow people and creatures to suffer…. The simple answer is that I just don’t know, but neither do I think that God “allows” us to suffer. I wonder whether it is a deeper question about God and His transcendence versus His immanence. Perhaps God relies on His people to intervene in other people’s suffering…In the words of St Teresa of Avila:
“Christ has no body but yours; no hands, no feet on earth but yours.
Yours are the eyes with which His compassion looks out upon this world.
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good.
Yours are the hands, with which He blesses all the world.” (at Upper Parkstone, Poole)
Christ has no body but yours…
